Work side by side with a master craftsman and learn the ancient craft techniques of Great Morocco

The master of handicrafts is called ‘Maalem’, which translates to, ‘the one who knows how to do things.’ For over 500 years, Maalems have been carrying on their work and handing down their skills to the next generation. During summer vacations, children and young people attend the Masters’ workshop and learn through games, which is one of the many trades of Moroccan craftsmanship. Once they have completed their studies, they can choose to join one of the many schools of specialization and training in crafts of Morocco. Finally, once they are specialized in the crafts, they can practice their profession and eventually become a Maalem.

WORKSHOPS DEDICATED TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION

Based on Maalem’s educational and pedagogical experience, we organize games and training sessions to discover colors and materials. These workshops are designed to help children and the youth to develop manual skills in a peaceful environment in our centers within the neighborhood artisan school. Children and teens will be supervised by our educational trainers for the duration of the course. Parents can attend the activities and are also invited to participate in the activities.

Take part in a professional craft workshop

Every month we organize craft workshops of different levels: Beginners, Intermediate and High. You can participate in an individual course or a group course and gain a high level of professional experience. The course lasts 6 hours per day during 5 days with your Maalam. You will learn to select the right materials, to use the tools and to produce small quality works of art independently. Participants must be 15 years of age and older.

Basic group workshops

The basic group workshops are designed to teach the participants the basic techniques of the handcraft and allow you to acquire the main skills to make simple crafts. The workshops are planned for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 participants for a total of 8 hours over 2 to 3 days (schedules will be communicated according to our center’s availabilities in Marrakech).

Professional group workshops

Professional group workshops welcome artisans who want to gain skills in local craft trades and learn techniques for restoration and decoration of small and large surfaces. Basic experience in using hand tools and good manual ability is required. They are scheduled according to the needs of the participants, and days and times of work will be arranged with our staff.
